From the Mediterranean to the Alps: a rhythmic journey through Italian culture

While Italy is often perceived as a single, unified and stereotyped culture, it is in fact composed of many regional traditions shaped by different historical, linguistic, ethnic influences.

This event focuses on two distinct cultural expressions: Occitan dances from Northern Italy (Piedmont region) and Tarantella from Southern Italy (Puglia region).

Through a combination of storytelling and folk dance participants will explore how geography, history, and community life have shaped different cultural identities within Italy — from the Alpine regions to the Mediterranean.

The session invites participants not only to learn about culture intellectually, but to experience it physically through movement, rhythm, and shared group interaction.

The event is open to a diverse audience, including local Estonian participants and international residents, and requires no prior dance experience.
